Blue Collar or White Collar: Best Career to Start at 30?
My 2 cents: Anything mechanical that requires fixing: HVAC, elevators, vehicles, etc Construction Drivers Electrical Plumbing
I think it's good to have a trade that exists in construction, and then service work as well. If one side dries up, I don't think it's too hard to make a shift. Especially if the credentials are the same. Plumbing for example. It would suck if you had to move just to find work again.
Doing it all over again, I figure long haul trucking, finish carpenter or a big animal vet. Last one crosses over the white-blue collar stuff but all three are generally in demand. How much $$$s one pulls out, well I understand truckers aren't making what they used to. Mind you back in my 20's I was thinking becoming Fred Garvin Male Prostitute might be a good gig.

If trades are your choice I would go with being an electrician, there are so many directions to branch from there and with your programming skills system controls would be a natural, PLC’s run everything industrial and pay’s around a$100 hr. Plus for contract
Congrats on saving enough for school , you are wise and disciplined. Isn’t there always work in construction ? PS I happen to know a considerable amount of members work in things such as or related to construction , plumbing , electrical, Hard physical labour , etc and similar fields . I’ve also spoken w a reasonable amount that work in finance , real estate , engineering, medical .
