After something like 25 years of marriage, with one girlfriend going on 20 years, a second (concurrently) going on 10, and a few short-terms along the way, mostly I'd say the lessons are: 1) Your wife/S.O. really needs to know and, if not exactly approve, at least tolerate. 2) Your secondary relationships will add companionship, entertainment, interest, some fun dinners out and yes, perhaps some extracurricular activity. But with the realities of life, the latter will almost certainly be less than you might think. Fun when it happens, sure, but I found there's lots of groundwork that needs to be done (and maintained) and lots of planetary alignment that needs to happen. 3) If you end up getting any side heartbreak or side drama, there'll be nobody you can truly turn to (unless you have an exceptionally supportive S.O.), so you'll pretty much have to suck it up alone. 4) It can be really hard to find the time for everything and keep the flames flickering (see also "planetary alignments" above). 5) I'd say that yes it's still generally worth it if you have the opportunity, but if all you want is the extracurricular activity this site can suggest far easier sources for that. And drinking with your buddies is also good for companionship, so don't forget to leave time for them.

There's no way in hell I'd risk a long term side chick. There eventually comes a point where a decision has to be made, and the side chick has the power to make that decision for you by snitching to your wife with ample evidence. I'm not giving that power to anybody. For me it's purely about sex and sex only. I don't want emotional intimacy or a connection. I want safe sex, with multiple women, on my terms, so a long term side piece doesn't fill that void. You'll also have twice the nagging.

Had a couple side chics at different times in my life. Getting caught was always on my mind. No guilt really, just didn’t want to lose my house or even worse my bike. Danger of a side chick is the risk of them wanting to unburden themselves of the guilt of cheating to their SO. Had that happen once in my uneventful civvie sex life. I phoned her for a fuck and she said" he knows". I said. "fuck. How? " she said "I told him" I said "why?" she said "I don't know" Didn't get killed because of it, but could have. As somebody on youtube said, cheating is the number one reason people get killed in relationship issues.
